NIMS in semis
KATHMANDU: Defending Champion NIMS advanced into the semifinals of the Fourth Jiten Thakuri Memorial Inter-school Basketball Tournament in the boys´ section on Saturday. NIMS made it to the semifinals as the winner of Group A after beating Oasis 49-44 on its home court in Tokha. Oasis also advanced into the semifinals as the runner-up. Likewise, Deep Jyoti and Daffodil secured their semifinal berths from Group B. Meanwhile, Pennwood, holder Daffodil, The Chand Bagh and The Sky Lark have entered the semifinals in the girls´ section.
Budhanilkantha wins sports meet
KATHMANDU: Budhanilkantha School lifted the team championship title of the First British Council A Level Sports Meet on Saturday with 145 points. Kathmandu University Higher Secondary School (KUHSC) finished second with 100 points while GEMS scored a total of 75 points for the third position. In the final day of the sports meet, Trinity defeated Rupy´s 51-42 in the final of boys´ basketball while Saipal beat Ace 18-10 in girls´ final. The five-day sports meet featured competitions in basketball, athletics, chess and table tennis.
Teresa beats Mount Kailash
KATHMANDU: The senior girls´ team of Teresa defeated Mount Kailash 21-20 during their basketball match of the Second Neric-Zenith Inter-school Basketball Championship on Saturday. In other matches, Innovative defeated Bauddha Children´s Heaven 14-10 and Galaxy beat Neric 17-10. In the senior boys´ section, Neric, Mount Glory and Wilson Academy won their respective matches.
Departmental teams start with victories
KATHMANDU: Departmental teams -- Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Police Club -- started on a winning note in the First Women´s Football League that kicked off on Saturday in Dhangadhi, Kailali. APF edged past Far-western Region 3-1 and Police crushed Mid-western Region 8-0. Chandra Bhandari alone scored five goals for Police team, while Niru Thapa achieved hat-trick. Bhandari scored in the 22nd, 25th, 32nd, 38th and 51st minutes respectively. Thapa scored in 64th, 70th and 72nd minutes. In the kick off match, Anu Lama, Sajana Rana and Laxmi Paudel scored one each for APF in the 20th, 48th and 60th minutes respectively. Nepal Army Club will play against Western Region and Eastern Region will vie against Central Region on Sunday.
PJ Club triumph in friendly football
KATHMANDU: Photo Journalists (PJ) Club defeated the officials of second division outfit Satdobato Youth Club 5-0 in a friendly match played on Saturday at Godavari, Lalitpur. Shankar Byanjankar achieved a hat-trick for PJ Club while Kapil Dhakal and Kaushal Adhikari scored one apiece. The friendly was organized few days before the kick off of B division league.
