“Nepali songs are no less in demand. Nowadays even Punjabis, Madrasis and Garhwalis ask for the CDs of mathi mathi, wari jamuna pari jamuna, lathi charge nagara maya paunalai and so on,” added Thapa.
According to Thapa, lack of adequate quality Nepali products is the main reason behind the old products not being replaced even in decades.
“The Nepali community in Garhi, Dakara, Ranjhawala and Raipur hardly buy the CDs of Bollywood songs or films. Sometimes, people also come here from Tihiri, Uttarkashi and Himachal Pradesh asking for Nepali movies and songs. For them, no song or movie is old or new as they enjoy all equally,” he added. Interestingly, he sold off five copies of “Pandra Gate” to the visitors from Himachal this Dashain.
Govinda Thapa, general secretary of Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha, adds that the old generation of Nepali families in Dehradun still does not understand any language other than Nepali.
