The championship supported by Mountain Sports Federation includes 100m and 400m sprints, 1,500m race as well as long jump and high jump. However, 5km road race of the championship will take place on Thursday.
London Snooker kicks off
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Champion Saroj Mulmi won his first match of the First London Snooker Tournament.defeating Prajwal Karki 3-0 on Tuesday at London Snooker House, Lalitpur. The tournament has the highest cash prize in Nepal for snooker competition.
Deepjal Dhungana, who had claimed silver medal during the 6th National Games, also won his first match on Tuesday. He defeated Suman Lama 3-0. However, Sixth National Games´ bronze medalist Neeraj Thapa lost to Phuri Sherpa 1-3.
On the other hand, Rajan Lama, Pragyan Rana, Lopsang Lama, Sujan Shahi, Ganesh Aryal, Sudeep Lama, Prabin Shakya, Sanjay Mulmi, Sanat Pratap Malla, Keshar Malla, Ajit Lama, Samyog Shahi and Bijay Thapa won their respective matches on Tuesday. Winner of the tournament will receive Rs 100,000 while runner-up will get Rs 50,000. Altogether, 128 players are participating in the tournament. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama and film artist Sunil Thapa jointly inaugurated the tournament.
Big win for Innovative
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Innovative, Kathmandu Valley and Galaxy on Tuesday won their respective matches in the boys´ basketball of 19th Eicher Gyan Carnival. Innovative thrashed Himalayan 31-11, while Kathmandu Valley edged past LRI 52-44 and Galaxy defeated Gyan Niketan 50-44. In the girls´ section, Daffodil beat Rato Bangala 25-16 while LRI defeated The Excelsior 20-16. In the boys´ football, Innovative beat The Excelsior 2-0 while Shahid Dharmabhakta registered a 1-0 victory over Bright Future.
Gyan Niketan lifts Pathshala Cup
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Gyan Niketan clinched the title of Pathshala Cup, the second national mini-basketball tournament, on Tuesday. Gyan Niketan thrashed Nepal Police School 26-6 in the final played at the court of Pathshala Nepal in Kathmandu. Samim Pradhan of the winning side was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament while Pawan Giri of Nepal Police School won the outstanding player award. Meanwhile, Shuvatara edged past KMC 30-24 to claim the third position.
Reliance beats Ideal Model in handball
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Reliance Academy defeated Ideal Model 8-6 in the opening match of the Second Inter-school Boys´ Handball Tournament on Tuesday at Kapan, Kathmandu. Bauddha Children Heaven also recorded an 8-6 victory over Anamol Jyoti while Joseph School thrashed NAMS 12-3. Likewise, Loyalty defeated Amar School 11-6 while Lovely Angel edged past Little Moon 4-3.
Dangol, Maharjan win rock climbing
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Rabindra Dangol and Kalpana Maharjan secured first position under men´s and women´s section of First JAT Nepal Inter-media Rock Climbing held in the capital on Tuesday. Dangol of Avenues TV took 55 second to finish climbing 50 m to finish ahead of Santosh Adhikari of Sagarmatha TV and Girish Bhattarai of Kantipur TV in men´s section. Kalpana Maharjan of Himalayan TV, Smriti Dhungana of Nepal Republic Media and Yulu Joshi of Gorkhapatra secured top three positions in women´s category respectively. Altogether 31 participants including 11 in women and 20 in men´s section had competed in the event. The event was organized on the occasion of 33rd World Tourism Day.
Top rated players off to winning start
ILAM (REPUBLICA): Most of the top rated players achieved victories during the first two rounds of the Ram Prasad Gautam Memorial International Chess Tournament that kicked off on Tuesday in Ilam. Russian GM Alexander Femoni, Australian IM Alaxender Wol, Nepal´s FMs Manish Hamal and Sujendra Prasad Shrestha were off to comfortable victories. Similarly, India´s Nilendra Shekhar Bhattachary and Dilip Das, Nepal´s Badri Lal Nepali, Niraj Niraula, Anil Rajbahak, Ganesh Man Duwal, Krishna Thapa and Madan Krishna Kayastha all garnered two points apiece. The winner of the tournament to be held for 10 rounds in the Swiss League format will be given Rs 60,000. The second and third position holder will be given Rs 40,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
