Athletics team leaving for India today

KATHMANDU, July 2: A total of five Nepali athletics players are set to take part in the 22th Asian Athletics Championship to be held from July 7-9 in Orissa of India.

KATHMANDU, July 2: A total of five Nepali athletics players are set to take part in the 22th Asian Athletics Championship to be held from July 7-9 in Orissa of India.

Two male and three female players will represent Nepal in nine different categories in the championship that will feature 800 players from 45 nations. Gopi Chandra Parki will compete in men's 5000 meters and 10,000 meters while Som Bahadur Kumal will take part in the men's 400 meters and 800 meters. 


In the women's section, Olympian Saraswati Bhattarai will compete in women's 800 meters and 1500 meters events. 



Similarly, Keshari Chaudhary will take part in long jump and triple jump while Chandrakala Lamgade will compete in javelin throw and shot put. 



Meanwhile, Nepal Athletics Association (NAA)'s Secretary RK Bista and Coach Bimal Rana Magar will also accompany the Nepali team.



Nepal Sports Council (NSC)'s Keshav Kumar Bista bade farewell to the Nepali team on Sunday amid a function on the NSC premises, Tripureshwar. The team will leave Kathmandu on Tuesday.
