Generals' term extension questioned

By No Author
KATHMANDU, June 7: A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court on Sunday seeking nullification of the new government decision that extended the service of eight Nepal Army brigadier generals retired by the former Maoist-led government.

Petitioner Raju Thapa, a rights activist, argued in the petition that the government decision in a sub judice case goes against the constitution.

The government on Friday decided in principle to extend the general´s term by reversing the decision of the Maoist-led government in March though the case is sub judice.

The generals´ service extension is one of the major political issues that has been dominating the country´s political spectrum since March.
