We won't quit govt without consensus: Dahal

By No Author
KATHMANDU, Sept 15: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Saturday that consensus has so far eluded them as Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have been making unnecessary demands asking the currently Maoist-led government to step down.

Addressing a closed door meeting of media persons close to party headquarters at Paris danda, Dahal claimed that the parties had agreed to revive the Constituent Assembly by September 15. [break]

"But the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have refused to discuss the contentious issues of constitution writing demanding that they be allowed to lead the government first,” a participant quoted Dahal as saying at the meeting. Dahal also accused the opposition parties of exerting pressure on the president to dismiss the Maoist-led government.

"The Nepali Congress and UML only want power," another participant quoted Dahal as saying. "We will not quit the government without forging consensus on contentious issues of constitution writing."

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Agni Sapkota urged the president to not give in to pressure from the opposition parties.
