NEPALGUNJ/SURKHET, Sept 11: At least 30 persons have been killed and 11 others injured when a bus swerved off the road and plunged some 500 meters into Tila River at Pakhagaun VDC-1, Birtamod section of the Karnali Highway in Kalikot on Monday night, informed District Administration Office, Kalikot.
Identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be ascertained. “No identity of the victims are ascertained as we were busy for the treatment of the victims,” said Jagat Basnet, Chief District Officer (CDO), Kalikot. [Break]
Seriously injured six passengers are being treated at Manma-based District Hospital. The police are preparing to fly them to Nepalgunj Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Other five injured are also being ferried to the hospital.
According to Bir Bahadur Thapa, sub inspector at the Mid-western Regional Traffic Police Office, Kohalpur, Banke, the ill-fated passenger bus (Na 4 Kha 6877) was heading to Jumla from Kalikot during the time of the mishap.
The accident site is some 21 kilometers from the Kalikot district headquarters, Manma.
The incident took place at around 11 pm last night.
