KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the police headquarters to suspend five police officials involved in investigating the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Kanchanpur with effect from Saturday accusing them of negligence.
The ministry suspended the police officials upon the recommendation of a five-member probe panel headed by Joint Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali.

Joint Secretary Ram Krishna Subedi, who is also the spokesperson of the ministry, said that the ministry has already directed the police headquarters to suspend the officials as per the recommendation.
The probe panel recommended suspension of DSP Angur Joshi of Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, DSP Gyan Kumar Sethi, who was at the district police office in Kanchanpur at the time of the incident, DSP Jagadish Bhatta, who was the chief of the area police office, Inspector Ekindra Khadka and Sub-Inspector Ram Singh Dhami.
SP Dilli Raj Bista of Kanchanpur was suspended earlier following massive protests by the locals. They are accused of not carrying out investigation into such a grave crime seriously.
