49 protesters arrested for breaching prohibitory orders and entering restricted area in Baneshwor

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The police have arrested several microfinance borrowers for allegedly trespassing into the parliament building by breaching restricted areas.


According to Information Officer (SP) Navraj Adhikari of the District Police Range Kathmandu, four people were arrested from inside the Parliament building and 45 people were arrested on the charge of breaking the prohibitory orders.


He informed Republica that 49 arrested people have been kept at New Baneshwor Police Circle.

On Monday, while the meeting was being held at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, the microfinance borrowers reached the premises and shouted slogans.


These borrowers, who were in trouble due to not being able to pay their microfinance loans and have come to Kathmandu on foot to protest, entered the parliament building on Monday and started protesting.


The government has designated the area around the Federal Parliament as a restricted area and prohibited demonstrations. However, some protesters were arrested after they violated the prohibitory orders and entered the restricted area and demonstrated.


They protested by lying down on the parliament premises stating that they were ready to be shot.
