49 police personnel test positive for COVID-19 in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU, Aug 30: At least 49 Nepal Police personnel tested positive for COVID-19 in the Kathmandu Valley on Sunday.


“Coronavirus infections among Nepal Police personnel spiked in recent weeks. 49 police personnel contracted coronavirus in the Kathmandu Valley on Sunday alone,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Susheel Yadav, the spokesperson for Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari.

Of the personnel who tested positive for COVID-19, 13 are from Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari. “The swab samples of policemen were collected after contact tracing. The samples were later  tested at the Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj. Following the results, police personnel have been sent to isolation,” said an official at Ranipokhari Police, adding that the authorities concerned are tracing the contacts of the infected police personnel.


With this, the number of COVID-19 infected police personnel in the Valley has reached 280.


According to Nepal Police Headquarters, more than 1,500 police personnel across the country have been tested positive for COVID-19 as of Sunday.
