KATMANDU, Oct 17: A total of 49 parties have submitted the name-lists of their candidates contesting the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) category. As per the election laws, the parties can field 110 candidates for parliamentary elections and 220 for provincial elections under the PR system. According to the EC, 27 parties have submitted their closed lists in Province 1, 29 in province 2, 31 in Province 3, 20 in Province 4, 27 in Province 5, 18 in province 6 and 20 in Province 7. On Sunday, 55 parties had received the tokens from the EC but the number of parties contesting under the PR category stood at 49 when the filing of candidacies was over.
Now, EC's legal officials will examine the name-lists registered by the parties until October 22 to see if they are inclusive. Then the EC will allow the parties to make the lists inclusive by adhering to all legal provisions. The revised lists should be provided to the EC by October 29.
