EC urges parties to be clear on documents required for closed list of proportional electoral system

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: The Election Commission (EC) has made the political parties clear on the necessary process, and the documents required for the submission of a closed list of candidates under the proportional representation electoral system for November 20 election.

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: The Election Commission (EC) has made the political parties clear on the necessary process, and the documents required for the submission of a closed list of candidates under the proportional representation electoral system for November 20 election.


The EC has already made public that that September 18 and 19 are the days to submit the closed list of candidates under the proportional quota to the provincial assembly and federal parliament. The EC has also set up the office of the chief returning officers. Political parties have been urged to mandatorily provide the necessary documents as per law and in line with inclusive principle.

Issuing a press statement on Sunday, spokesperson for proportional electoral system at EC, Guru Prasad Wagle, said the documents that fail to meet the criteria would not be registered. The procedure to follow and the document checklist have been mentioned in the EC's website, he added.


After investigating the documents, the EC will urge the political parties for correction, if any, from September 20 to 25. Similarly, the parties are obliged to submit the corrected list from September 26 to October 2.


The EC has scheduled that political parties can file candidacies under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) on October 9.
