SPORTS BRIEFS: Host Valley Public, HIMS off to winning start

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Host Valley Public and Himalayan International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) started on a winning note under boys´ category in the Seventh Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament that kicked off on Tuesday in the capital. Valley Public edged past Sapta Gandaki 23-12. Srawan Chaudhary and Saurav Magar netted eight points each for the winning side.



Similarly, HIMS recorded 29-20 win over Siddhartha Vanasthali riding on 11 points of Tshering Sherpa. Similarly Kathmandu Valley School thumped Universal 48-8, TIA edged past Lord 33-31, Mount Kailash defeated Young Hearth 40-23, Baba edged past Golden Peak 33-18 and Bhadrakali saw off British Gurkha 14-11. Under girl´s section, Valley Public, TIA and KVS emerged victorious.[break]



JP beats Apple Academy

KATHMANDU: JP High School edged out Apple Academy 1-0 in the selection round of the Coca-Cola Inter School National Girls´ Football Tournament on Tuesday. Rashmi Tamang of JP High School scored the lone goal of the match in the 60th minute. In another match, Nandi School secured a berth in the final round with a 2-0 win over Apple Academy. Sarita Lama and Srijana Lawati scored the goals for Nandi in the 45th and 63rd minutes respectively, ANFA said.
