ROLPA, Aug 16: As many as 2,856 people of 485 households in Rolpa now have access to clean drinking water after the successful implementation of the Western Nepal Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project in seven different locations of the district.

The villages who had been deprived of water for years are on cloud nine. Gopal Damai, chairman of Gangadev Rural Municipality-2, expressed his happiness saying, “With the supply of drinking water, we can now focus on sanitation aspects.”

The project utilizes solar technology to bring drinking water in the villages. Villagers who were forced to walk for hours to bring drinking water from other villages now have access to drinking water.

The project has been implemented in Talwang of Madi Rural Municipality-3; Samri, Sarpal and Gulam of Runtigadhi Rural Municipality-9; Jaima of Sunchari Rural Municipality; Babiyachaur of Pariwartan Rural Municipality-6; and Pirale of Tribeni-1.

The project was implemented by the local drinking water consumer committee of each village.

Sarwajeet Gharti of Jhimpuwang said that the water supply and sanitation project has been a big support to them, especially the female members their families who fetch water.

Project officer Bholanath Acharya said solar pump is the only option to supply drinking water to some of the villages. “Solution to drinking water woes now enables villages to focus on sanitation, which is equally important. We also plan to expand our project to other settlements as well,” he added.

According to him, six more projects under the Western Nepal Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project would be completed within four months.
