The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has also suspended leave of all the health workers in all government health centers across the country. [break]
The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) under Department of Health Service (DHS) said that it has alerted all health workers about the possible outbreak of the diseases. “We have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the people and alerted all health workers about the possible epidemic in the upcoming monsoon,” Dr GD Thakur, Director of Division, said.
He said leave suspension orders to the health workers were been issued a month ago and has been circulated in all District Public Health Offices across the country. The division said no health workers will be permitted to go on leave during this period. The MoHP is also coordinating with private medical colleges in Tarai districts to provide treatment to patients in case of epidemic of disease. The government will support those medical colleges for their contribution.
The District Public Health Offices have also made their own action plan by forming rapid response teams at grass root levels and surveillances have been intensified. “We have already imparted necessary training to the health workers,” Dr Thakur added.
The division said it had also intensified surveillance of vector borne disease in 31 high risk districts. Among them Jhapa, Dhanusha, Kanchanpur and Kailali are highly sensitive with about 60 percent of the total cases. Banke, Bardia, Morang, Mahottari, Dadheldhura, Kavre, Nawalparasi, Sindhuli are other high risk districts. The EDCD said a single case of Dengue was detected in April and two cases in May. Last year 3,100 cases of dengue were recorded.
The office said that search and destroy operation of Dengue Mosquito will be conducted in the last week of July in all risks districts. The EDCD has also planned to conduct indoor residual spraying to curb malaria infection.
The Division has asked people to wash hands before eating anything.
