44 new COVID-19 cases in Gandaki taking provincial tally to 144

BENI, June 9: Gandaki Province has reported a total of 24 new cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease on Tuesday morning.

According to Gandaki Province Health Directorate, 12 people from Baudikali Rural Municipality of Nawalpur district, 11 from Baglung district--eight of Bareng Rural Municipality and three of Nisikhola Rural Municipality -- and one other from Beni Municipality in Myagdi district were tested positive for this fatal virus during a lab test conducted at Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences.

Dr Binod Bindu Sharma, spokesperson for Gandaki Province COVID-19 Control and Prevention Program, said all the infected persons are being taken to the isolation wards in their respective district hospitals.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 patients in Gandaki Province has jumped to 144 with three recoveries and a case of fatality. Earlier on Monday, a 58-year-old man from Waling Municipality-3, Syangja succumbed to this disease.

Of the eleven districts in the province, nine districts have reported COVID-19 infection. Two mountainous districts Manang and Mustang have not reported any cases so far.
