RASUWA, June 4: The Province 3 government has announced to conduct a feasibility study for a cable car service to the holy Gosainkunda Lake of Rasuwa district.

In the Policy and Programs for Fiscal Year 2018/19 issued on Friday, the provincial government announced to conduct feasibility study for building cable car line to facilitate pilgrims and tourists visiting the holy lake.

Gosainkunda Lake is also a Ramsar site. Every year, a large number of pilgrims visit the holy lake. Gosainkunda region is also popular among tourists as the region is home to high passes and high altitude lakes, among other attractions.

This is not the first time that an initiative has been taken to build cable car line to Gosaikunda. However, this is the first time that the project has been included in the government's policy and programs. Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had rejected several proposals to build cable car at Gosainkunda.

Shanti Theeng, member of provincial assembly of Province 3, believes that the ministry will now accept the proposal as it has come under the policy and programs document of the Province 3 government. “Cable car service is needed for economic prosperity of Rasuwa district. We have proposed to build cable car service from district headquarters Dhunche to Goasainkunda. However, technical details will be finalized after the feasibility study,” she added.

According to Theeng, another proposal from Nuwakot has also been submitted to the ministry to build cable car line, connecting Ghyangphedi in Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality with Gosainkunda. Another proposed route for the cable car service is from Lokil Chhodan to Gosainkunda.

Every year, thousands of pilgrims visit Gosainkunda Lake area during major festivals like Janai Poornima. Similarly, thousands of tourists trek through the area annually.
