Banda effect partial in capital

By No Author
KATHMANDU, April 9: The banda called by Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal (RJN) has a partial effect in the capital on Monday, with several public and private vehicles seen plying on the road and businesses running as normal.

The RJN has called the dawn-to-dusk shutdown in the Bagmati zone for today to protest federalism and press for timely promulgation of the new constitution and early elections of local bodies. [break]

Some two dozen RJN cadres have been detained by police from various places in the Kathmandu valley while they were trying to enforce the banda.

Reports say banda enforcers have attacked and vandalized some vehicles in Kalikasthan, Gongabu and Kalanki. Security has been stepped up in the streets to prevent any untoward incidents.
