NEPALGUNG, April 7: UCPN (Maoist) leader and Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Lokendra Bista Magar said on Saturday the Maoist party is poised to a threat of split due to increasing differences between the two rival factions in the party.

Talking to media persons in Nepalgunj, the minister said the threat by the hardline faction led by Mohan Baidya of starting the people´s war is an absurd thought, arguing that such war has succeeded nowhere in the world. [break]

"The radical faction itself will have to bear the consequences of such kind of revolt first, which will eventually affect the country," Magar said.

He accused the hardline leaders of spreading anarchy in the party, adding that the party establishment has failed to take measures to curb their activities for the sake of saving the party from split.

In another context, the tourism minister said that the incumbent government itself will promulgate the new statute and subsequently hold general elections.
