JANAKPUR, March 18: Vice-chairman of UCPN (Maoist) Mohan Baidya Sunday instructed party´s cadres to be ready for revolt, saying a new constitution was unlike to be promulgated by the May 27 deadline.

The comments came a day after clear signs emerged of gowing rift within UCPN (Maoist). On Saturday, the Baidya-led faction announced a series of protests to topple what it called "the anti-national government" and to draft "people´s constitution". [break]

Addressing at a meeting with leaders and cadres of Maoists´ Mithila State Committee in Janakpur, Baidya stated that the party should go for revolt and it would be against dictators and anti-federalism forces in the country.

“The new constitutionIt is unlikely to be promulgated by May 27 and even if it is promulgated, it will not be people´s constitution. So be prepared for revolt,” a leader quoted Baidya as saying at the meeting.

In a separate context, Baidya, said he was not in favor of splitting the party. “It will be wrong, if anybody thinks Baidya is preparing to divide the party,” said Baidya.

“However, those who give up party´s policy and ideology should be separated from the party.”

He accused party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai of being revisionist.

Baidya accused Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of expressing anti-federal views and demanded he stepped down. “Bhattarai could not work for people´s cause. So, he must step down to pave the way for another leader,” he added.

Baidya also instructed cadres to keep intra-party struggle against revisionism and dictatorship within the party.
