The center will provide three-month international standard training to almost 28 percent personnel of total APF force within five years.

The APF training center will basically provide trainings on Collapse Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR), Medical First Respond (MFR), Death Body Management (DBM), Water Rescue, Mountaineering and Climbing.

“The center aims to provide trainings for preparedness for calamities,” said SSP Durga Bahadur Kuwar, commandant at the APF disaster management training center.

The government on December 8, 2011 had given a nod to APF to establish the training center.

The APF has adopted a five-year working plan for the training center. Under the first phase, trainings will be given to six platoons, each from six brigades. The center will expand its training to battalions and companies in the second and third phases respectively, said SSP Kuwar.

APF, formed to counter then rebel Maoists, is currently working for border security and management of calamities.

A team from APF headquarters was sent to Philippines and India for disaster management training and the same team will be instructing the APF personnel, said SSP Kuwar. He added that this is the only training in APF with no variation of training level for all ranks. The training will be given up to the level of DSP.
