All of them told their ages to be between 20 and 21. According to the locals at Gaighat-2, the women would "hypnotize" their clients, especially housewives, and take away all the valuables from them.
According to the district police office, one of them was arrested while reading a client´s palm and the rest from a vehicle while they were absconding. They were about to trick one Sunju Karki of Gaighat-4 when the locals informed the police.
“The locals informed us after the group had already cheated many households in the area. In case of Karki, she was saved as we reached on time,” said sub-inspector Ramesh Koirala.
By the time, police reached the spot, Karki had already given the women a gold chain, a new sari and a set of kitchenware. She was about to present them another gold chain while the police interrupted.
According to Karki, the four women had held her hand and patted her head once. “And that made me do all they wanted. I was just hypnotized and began to give everything they asked for,” she said.
