4 killed, 8 seriously injured in Okhaldhunga bus accident

UDAYAPUR, June 2: Four people, including a minor, died and eight others seriously injured in a bus accident in Okhaldhunga on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the bus (Ba 2 Kha 9455) heading for Harkapur in Okhaldhunga from Halesi in Khotang skidded off 150 meters down the road at Thakle VDC-8, Sokmatar.



The deceased have been identified as Lalit Kumar Rai , 33 of Thakle-8, Phadindra Hari Dahal, 25, of Baruneshwor-2 and two-year old Samarthan Majhi of Toksel of Okhaldhunga. According to Chief District Officer of Okhaldhunga Surya Bahadur Khatri the identity of one of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. [break]



The ill-fated bus carrying 40 passengers met with the accident at around 11 am in the morning. Khatri said four of the injured are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences in Dharan while four others have been admitted to Katari Hospital in Udayapur.



Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control as the road was slippery due to incessant rain the night before. Khatri also said that a joint rescue team of the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force was deployed to the accident site immediately. The accident site is 46 kilometer south-west of the district headquarters Okhaldhunga.
