Star Management, Malaysia-based operator of the casino, reviewed its previous shut-down decision and announced resumption of services in 10 days after trade unions accepted the 14-point conditions set by the management. [break]
Under these conditions, the workers have agreed that they will not protest any disciplinary action taken against staffs and not resort to sudden strike, something which they did in the past.
After the officials of Star Management and workers´ talks team, which included representatives from three trade unions, signed the 14-point agreement at Department of Labor on Thursday, the management agreed to pay them the salary of two months when the casino remained shut down due to their strike.
. “Today´s signing has paved way for the resumption of casino services. But as we needed some time for clean-up and other preparations, we have decided to open the casino in next ten days,” Bodh Bikram Pandey director of Casino Shangri-La told Republica.
The board meeting of the management on Tuesday had promised to revise its shut-down decision if the trade unions agreed to its 14-point conditions.
Ram Krishna Shrestha, a member of the workers´ talks team, said that they had signed the agreement after the management committed to pay salary of two months.
Casino was shut down on November 18, 2011 after workers affiliated to CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) fought with each other and suddenly went on strike without notifying the management.
The company on December 29, 2011 had lodged an application at concerned authorities, including Ministry of Labor and Department of Labor, seeking permission for permanent shut down, after talks with workers failed.
Workers affiliated with the three major political parties had formed a nine-member ad-hoc committee to hold talks with the management after it forwarded the application to shut down operations.
