KATHMANDU: Morgan College on Saturday lifted the trophy of Third BST Cup Inter College Basketball Tournament. In the match played at the Court of BST College, Morgan overcame National Campus. Morgan took the first two quarters by 12-11, 17-10 but lost the third quarter by 20-13. Morgan bounced back in the fourth quarter by 24-16 and sealed the victory. Most Valuable Player Saurav Shrestha scored 20 points for the winning team. In the third place play off Bishal Gurung´s 27 points guided Golden Gate for 63-39 victory over Bagmati Modern College.
KATHMANDU: Siddhartha Vanasthali lifted the team championship trophy of Gopal Singh Memorial 14th Karate Tournament on Saturday. Vanasthali bagged eight gold, one silver and five bronze medals for the team championship. With three gold, two silver and a bronze medal Baneshwar Dojang finished second and Kwanmukan won a gold, two silver and three bronze for third place.
KATHMANDU: Chasikot Taekwondo Dojang lifted the team championship with two gold medals as many silver and one bronze medal, on Saturday. Lalit Taekwondo finished second while Voice of Children finished third. Suraj Shrestha of Lalit and Puja Shrestha of Om Taekwondo Dojang were adjusted best player of the tournament.
KATHMANDU: Defending champion Gyanu Baba Higher Secondary School on Saturday started the Seventh Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament with win. Gyanu Baba registered twin win on Saturday against Angel´s Heart and Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center. Gyanu Baba beat Angel´s Heart by 25-12, 25-16, 25-8 and Jawalakhel by 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.
In the other matches played at the court of New Buspark, Tops also registered twin win. Tops overcame Bijeshori 25-3, 25-6, 25-12 and Chandeshori Youth Club of Ramechhap by 25-13, 25-7, 25-4. Nepal Police Club and Jawalakhel also registered win in the third day of the tournament. Nepal Police Club thumped New Diamond 25-15, 25-17, 25-8 and Jawalakhel edged past Bijeshori 25-16, 25-9, 25-8.
Kayastha wins chess title
KATHMANDU: Madan Krishna Kayastha of Kavre won the title of Dhan Bahadur Pradhan Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament on Saturday. Kayastha accumulated 5.5 points and has 25.5 progressive points from the seven rounds of the tournament, organized by The Himalayan Chess Club. Kayastha received Rs 3,000 and a trophy for winning the rating tournament. Kayastha defeated FIDE Master Manish Hamal in the fourth round and played a draw against another FIDE Master Bilam Lal Shrestha.
He defeated Nabin Tandukar in the sixth round. Bilam Lal Shrestha finished second. Shrestha accumulated 5.5 points, equals to Kayastha´s points, but remained behind because of progressive points. Shrestha has 23.5 progressive points. Hamal remained in the third position with five points.
Duro Warriors in QF
KATHMANDU: Duro Warriors defeated Crack Heads by six wickets on Saturday to reach the quarterfinals of the Ridhi Sidhi Marwadi T20 Cricket Tournament. Electing to bat first on the Modern Indian School Ground, Chovar, Crack Heads put up 135 runs in 20 overs losing eight wickets. Chirag Mahipal scored 34 runs off 21 balls while Ankit Garg added 22 runs and Rahul Goyal contributed 21 runs.
Sanjay Madhaogadia and Jayant Agrawal took three wickets each for Duro Warriors. Duro Warriors met the target in 10.3 overs losing four wickets as man-of-the-match Niraj Basnet struck 50 runs off 19 balls. Prateek Gupta remained unbeaten for 27 runs while Ronesh Agrawal added 27 runs. Ankit Garg took three wickets for Crack Heads.
