KATHMANDU, July 31: As many as 39 Nepali citizens who were living abroad succumbed to the COVID-19 infection in the past three weeks.
According to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), 37 Nepali died in Malaysia and one each in Iraq and Uganda due to COVID-19 in the span of less than a month.

The data collected by the NRNA shows that as many as 483 Nepalis have died of COVID-19 so far in 29 countries including India. The first death of a Nepali citizen from the deadly disease abroad was recorded in Iraq.
According to the health committee under the NRNA, 127,934 Nepali’s living in 54 different countries have been infected by the virus. Among them, 117,521 have recovered from the disease. With this, the recovery rate of Nepalis living abroad is 91.86 percent, coordinator of the health committee, Dr Sanjiv Sapkota said.
According to Sapkota, the rates of infection within Nepalis living in India and Malaysia have increased in the past two weeks.
The NRNA has been collecting data on the basis of information received with the help of Nepali communities abroad, Nepali doctors, Nepali missions, organization and umbrella associations abroad since last year.
