KATHMANDU, May 6: The UK Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Philip Parham, has pointed at the need for an ´objective assessment´ of the situation in ground in Nepal, which, he said, “will be an important part of the “Security Council´s deliberations ahead of the end of UNMIN´s mandate on July 23.”

In the Security Council (SC) briefing on May 5, Parham said, “We will need to monitor the situation very closely in the coming weeks and months.”

In his briefing he said, “Even before the current crisis, the Nepali authorities´ prediction that the integration process could be completed by July 15 looked unrealistic. In our view, this is, and remains, a substantial process, involving complex decisions that require political commitment by all the parties in the spirit of the peace process agreements.”
