KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Yang Haulan told Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Thursday that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao put off his visit to Nepal because of the latter´s busy schedule.

“Speculations in the media surrounding the postponement of the visit by our prime minister are baseless. [break]

His visit to Burma and Nepal was postponed as he has to attend various meetings at the end of the Chinese fiscal year,” Bhattarai´s aide Bishwadeep Pandey quoted Haulan as saying during a meeting at Baluwatar.

According to Pandey, Haulan also told Bhattarai that Jiabao will fix the date of his visit soon after holding “talks at the higher level”.

China on Tuesday suddenly postponed the proposed visit, although final preparations were in full swing.

Though the visit has not been formally announced by either side, Prime Minister Bhattarai had told the media last month that his Chinese counterpart was visiting Nepal from December 20, something contrary to the Chinese tradition of making public such visits just a couple of days earlier. Jiabao was to land in Nepal after wrapping up his visit to Myanmar.

An advanced team from China had also recently visited Kathmandu to make an assessment of the security situation and held meetings with government officials.
