Road safety program launched in Karnali Province

SURKHET, March 5: With the objective of regulating traffic and curbing accidents, Karnali Province has launched a road safety program in all 10 districts of the province from Saturday. 

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister of the province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said that citizen's safety is the first step towards a prosperous and developed province. "As long as the citizens don't feel safe at their place, we cannot imagine prosperity," said Chief Minister Shahi. He also assured that the people of his province won't have to go through any kind of hassle on roads from now onwards.

Likewise, Naresh Bhandari, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, expressed that this program has been launched in all districts as the first step towards prosperity. "This program won't just ensure the security of the locals of this province but the entire country," claimed Bhandari. He further said that the province will carry out its activities on the basis of a 40-point commitment which was recently publicized. 

According to Minister Bhandari, Birendranagar has become a centre of drug abuse and to control that the province is planning to conduct a special program. SSP Rana Bahadur Chand, chief of Province Police, informed Republica that around 56 per cent of deaths in the province are associated with roads. "So, road security is very much important to minimize such fatalities," said SSP Chand.

Transportation businessman Ramesh Sapkota has urged the provincial government to allow vehicular movement on the Karnali Highway even at night time. “Besides adopting various other measures to curb accidents, the government should allow vehicles to move on the highway even at night time," said Sapkota.
