Prime Cup from Saturday

KATHMANDU, Nov 10: Prime College on Thursday decided to organize the ninth edition of the Prime College Basketball Championship from November 12-19 on the college premises in Kathmandu.



Organizing a press conference in the capital on Thursday, Naresh Prasad Shrestha, the principal of the college said that the tournament will feature 16 teams in the men´s section and six teams in women´s section from Kathmandu valley. [break]



The tournament will be held on league cum knockout basis. Men´s teams have been divided into four groups with as many teams in each group and women teams have been classified into two groups with three teams in each group.



Top two teams of each group will qualify for the quarterfinal stage in men´s section and top two team´s into semifinal in women´s section.



Players upto higher secondary levels will only be deemed eligible for participation in the men´s tournament while that of women´s is open. The host Prime College is the defending champion in both categories.



Group A consists of host Prime, Reliance, Xavier International and Rosebud in the men´s section.



Similarly, Goldengate, Trinity, Caribbean and Ace are pitted in group B, Morgan, Bernhardt, Premier and St Xavier´s are in group C and group D consist of National, Orient, Pentagon and VS Niketan. In the girl´s section, Prime, Bernhardt, Premier have been placed under group A and Goldengate, Reliance and Nakkhipot in group B.
