KATHMANDU, March 6: The matches under the World Cup Qualifier -2022 and the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier-2023 are to be suspended due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) which is spreading globally.
A joint meeting of the world football governing body, FIFA, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided to suspend the matches which were scheduled in Asia for the time-being.

Stating the health and security of all persons affiliated to FIFA is their first priority, FIFA and AFC have announced that the games under the World Cup Qualifier-2022 and the Asian Cup Qualifier-2023 have been cancelled for now. With FIFA's this decision, the Ministry of Youth and Sports held an emergency meeting on Thursday.
The meeting chaired by Minister for Youth and Sports, Jagat Bahadur Bishwokarma had decided to suspend all programmes including sports competitions until further notice to be safe from the possible coronavirus infection. The matches of the sixth and seventh round under the FIFA World Cup Qualifier and the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier in Group B were scheduled to be held in Nepal. As per this schedule, Nepal was to play against Chinese Taipei on March 26 and against Australia on March 31.
Nepal has collected only three points from five matches. It is in the fourth position after defeating Chinese Taipei. Australia is in the first position with 12 points and Kuwait is in the second position with 10 points while Jordan, which has equal 10 points, is in the third place. Chinese Taipei which is without any points is in the last position.
