Surya Bhusan Bajracharya is the coach of the Nepali team while All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association (ANLTA) Vice-president Jyoti Rana and Sriram Magar will accompany the team as officials.
ANLTA Vice-president Dinesh Tuladhar and General Secretary Manohar Das Mool bade farewell to the team amidst a function at Satdobato Tennis Court on Friday.
The tournament is a part of the championship series organized by Asian Tennis Federation and national associations.
Nepali team had earlier participated in a similar championship of the series held in Bangladesh last month. Nepali duo Saksham Karki and Pranab Kayastha had reached the semifinals in boys´ doubles in Bangladesh. However, Karki is not in the current team as he picked up injury.
“Our boys had reached quarterfinals in the singles category in Bangladesh and we hope we´ll produce better result this time,” said Coach Bajracharya.
According to Bajracharya, the current series is important to gain international ranking and ANLTA has been sending teams to different championships under the series. “Since we can not afford championship in the expensive cities, we are targeting championships in the neighboring countries,” said Bajracharya.
Bajracharya said that the championship in Lucknow will give an exposure to Nepali players. “Tennis Association is planning to host a championship of the Asian U-14 Series and ITF (International Tennis Federation) U-14 World Ranking Tournament in Kathmandu in 2014. We hope our participation in different championships of the series will give exposure to our players before the home tournaments,” said coach Bajracharya.
Parents of the participating players are funding ANLTA for the Lucknow tour.
