KATHMANDU, July 18: The Nepali Congress (NC) Disciplinary Committee has proposed action against 87 people and acquittal of 35 people for their activities against the decisions of the party and the party alliance in matters related to the elections at various levels.
Anand Dhungana, coordinator of the committee, made such a proposal in a meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee which started on Tuesday.
Coordinator Dhungana informed NC leaders during the meeting that the action against some of the leaders was withdrawn upon verbal order from the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba. "I have withdrawn action against some leaders on the basis of the president's direct order," he said, while he read out the names of 35 people acquitted by the committee.

“We have acquitted 35 people. Those who have won the election and have admitted their mistakes and submitted written clarification expressing their desire to stay and work with the party have been cleared off the charges," he said.
According to Coordinator Dhungana, mayor and deputy mayor of Mahottari and mayor of Chandannath Municipality were among those acquitted from all charges.
According to him, Dinesh Koirala, Krishna Sapkota, Bhim Bahadur Shrestha, Shambhu Prasad Aryal, Meena Kharel and Anand Raut, who were recommended for action in Chitwan, have been acquitted by the committee. The actions against the leaders of Bara, Chitwan and Tanahun have been revoked.
Coordinator Dhungana also said that 87 people have been punished by revoking their general membership. He said that the list of those who were punished was too long and could not be read out.
He said that the decision will be implemented only after the party's central committee approves those who have been punished and acquitted. Coordinator Dhungana gave this answer after the members present at the meeting raised questions on this matter.
Meanwhile, Dhungana claimed that 121 complaints have been received from 46 districts but the committee has not been able to go through those cases.
“The disciplinary committee is yet to get full shape. Only the post of the coordinator has been announced. Nominations of other members are pending. There is provision in the party statute to add four members. Therefore, we have not completed all the work," he said.
