He had been suffering from abdominal discomfort. Shakya founded the Kartiknatch Management Committee and was instrumental in giving continuity to that historic tradition at Patan Durbar Square.
He was Lalitpur correspondent of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) for 18 years, and also wrote for various periodicals.
A man of many interrests, Shakya penned over half a dozen books in Nepali and Nepalbhasa, including Nirvan, Pragyaparamita, Jayasthiti Mallako Samaj Sudharbata Buddha Dharmamapareko Asar (Impact of Jayasthiti Malla´s Social Reforms on Buddhist Religion), Swanigalaya Lonhity (Stone Water Spouts of Nepal Valley) and, lately, Rato Machindranath.
He was cremated at Sankhamool.
He leaves behind his wife, son and daughter.
