KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Finance and Labor Relations Committee (FLRC) of Parliament on Thursday directed District Administration Office (DAO) and Department of Commerce (DOC) to set up a hotline so that consumers could instantly report violation of consumer rights.

“The committee has directed DAO and DoC to present the details regarding the setting up of the hotline immediately,” Krishna Hari Khadka, secretary of the committee told Republica.[break]

FLRC also directed the government to deploy mobile market inspection teams at various places to conduct regular monitoring in the market. “The sweeping actions taken lately have proven that authorities can act effectively if they showed commitment. We expect them to show this commitment whole year round,” said Khadka.

FLRC has further instructed the concerned authorities to rigorously inspect the quality of fruits, vegetables, cereals, medicines, gas and drinking water, among others.

The committee has also directed the government to monitor the sales of the tickets of passenger buses and airplanes on the eve of upcoming festive season.

The meeting of FLRC on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of General Administration to arrange security force, provide necessary logistics and additional manpower to the market inspection teams to enable them to carry out their duties more effectively.
