Tourism & festivity can go hand in hand

KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Lot of people, who think festivals are not only about heading home in crowded buses and flights, are mixing tourism with festivity.

Not to miss any opportunity in the Nepal Tourism Year, domestic tour operators are all too happy and are working out packages for the corporate, old-age and family segments, among hundreds of exotic locations and tourism facilities across the country. [break]

Value-for-money packages for star destinations like Chitwan and Pokhara to more exotic locations such as Palpa, Balthali, Muktinath, Ghale Gaun, Bandipur, Ghalegaon, Chitlang and trekking options in Annapurna, Langtang and Everest region are drawing people away from their homes during the upcoming festivals.

Despite changing trends, the choice of destination for most tourists has not changed. Travel agents say packages for Chitwan and Pokhara are most sought-after while there are enquires for destination like Palpa, Balthali, Muktinath, Ghale Gaun and others.

Dream Nepal is offering package on day basis depending upon the destination. The package for Thitlang in Makwanpur district costs Rs 1,000 per person per day and this includes three meals a day and accommodation.

Samrat Tours is focusing on packages for Pokhara and Chitwan. "We have alternatives to these destinations but people prefer to visit these places time and again," C N Pandey at Samrat Tours said. The travel agency provides 2 nights 3 days package for Pokhara at Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,500. Similarly, package for Chitwan is available from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,500.

Both of these packages cover accommodation, full board and all tourist activities like cultural dance, sight-seeing, boating and so on.

In previous years, non-resident Nepalis (NRN) who come home during Dashain used to be major clients, Pandey says. In recent years, government employees, businessmen and people from different other walks of life are traveling under packages.

Coming at a cost of Rs 2,500, Everest Panorama Resort, Daman, has launched a package called Corporate Funia. Kanchan Agrawal, sales & marketing officer of the resort, says the package includes accommodation, three meals a day, welcome drink, snacks, sauna, Jacuzzi and others.

Similarly, Emery travels is launching budget packages that start from Rs 400 only. Pramod Kumar Shrestha of Emery Travels says enquiries are a lot better than previous years. "We are launching new packages for Jumla and Rara and they will be in different categories to suit the people of every budget. Shrestha says his budget packages would be inclusive of room, breakfast and dinner at all destinations possible. "We will shortly launch old-age package targetting retired and elderly people," he added.

Dream Nepal is offering tour packages for destinations like Bandipur, Ghalegaon, Chitlang and also trekking packages to Annapurna, Langtang and Sagarmath region with focus on eco-tourism.
