“If all the decisions are taken at political level, we will need at least ten days to dispatch survey teams for categorization,” said Balananda Sharma, convener of the secretariat under the Special Committee, when Republica asked whether it would be possible to implement the Maoist decision within a day. The Maoist decision is not anything new as the Special Committee on June 7 had decided to begin the categorization process on June 24 and complete it between 60-63 days. But the target was missed as parties failed to agree on all the contentious issues related to the peace process.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has committed to expedite the peace process before a parliament committee.
Bhattarai made the commitment to this effect at a meeting of the parliament´s special monitoring committee held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday.
“I will deploy the monitoring teams to the cantonment sites from tomorrow (Wednesday) and I will resolve other contentious issues with regard to integration of Maoist combatants as well," a leader present at the meeting quoted the prime minister as saying.
The committee, which is headed by Speaker Subas Nembang, summoned Bhattarai to brief the committee about his plan of action with regard to concluding the peace process and constitution writing.
