Left alliance students continue protesting against petro- price hike (with photo/video)

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The student unions affiliated with the Left Alliance have continued their protest against the recent price hike in petroleum product for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

The protest began from Bhrikuti Mandap and ended at Ratnapark converting into a mass meeting. During the protest, the students chanted slogan against the government and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

Similarly, the protestors chanted slogan against the Chief Commissioner of Election Commission, Ayodhee Prasad Yadav demanding immediate publish of the election result under PR electoral system.

Speaking at the mass meeting, the speakers demanded immediate resignation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, citing in capacity of Minister of Home Affairs, he ordered the police to suppress their protest.

On Tuesday, the police had intervened in the protest and fired two rounds of teargas shells to disperse the protestors.

Following the intervention, police had clashed with demonstrators in which one student sustained injuries.

On January 1, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), a state-owned oil monopoly, had hiked the price of petroleum products for the third time within a month. 

Meanwhile, a meeting of ANFSU has decided to organize a Gherao program at NOC on Thursday and Friday demanding the withdrawal of the price hike. Similarly, the meeting has decided to organize a street debate program against the delay on publishing the election result.
