KATHMANDU, Nov 23: Various 13 student organizations affiliated to different political parties have demonstrated in the capital city against the parliament decision to raise the salary and allowance of the members of parliament.

Nepal Student Union, ANNFSU, ANNISU (Revolutionary) and others staged demonstration at Peace Garden of Ratna Park in the capital city on Wednesday.

The participants at the protest rally chanted slogans demanding the withdrawal of pay hike- 'Pay attention to statute implementation, withdraw pay hike, forge unity among parties.'

In the corner gathering organized after the protest rally, Nepal Student Union's Chairman, Nain Singh Mahar, said the rise of salary and allowance to the MPs was against people's interest. "If it is not withdrawn, protest would be continued," he warned.

Similarly, ANNFSU Chairperson Nabina Lama said the rise of allowance to the lawmakers at a time when the people were in desperate need of food and shelter was quite illogical. So the decision must be rolled back, she underscored.

Another student leader Mahesh Gartaula opined that it was quite irresponsible to raise allowance of MPs because the country was yet to heal the wounds of earthquake and blockade. RSS
