Replace Mahara with Shrestha in govt: Maoist taskforce

KATHMANDU, July 17: The taskforce of the UCPN (Maoist) formed on Saturday to make recommendation for an inclusive selection of ministerial candidates from the party has suggested the party to call back Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara from the government and replace him with party Vice-Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha.



The taskforce appointed by a meeting of the office bearers of the party, a day earlier made the suggestion on Sunday morning. Mahara has been leading the Maoist contingent in the government. [break]



It has also suggested the party leadership to replace Shrestha with another Vice-Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai as the party’s deputy leader. Likewise, it has suggested the names of party secretaries Post Bahadur Bogati and CP Gajurel for ministerial berths in the government.



A meeting of the office bearers of the party called for 11:00 am this morning will now discuss the suggestions made by the taskforce. The meeting will be followed by the party’s long-stalled Central Committee meeting later in the day.



The five-member taskforce is headed by party leader Dev Gurung, with Barshaman Pun, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Girirajmani Pokharel and Lilamani Pokharel as its members.
