HARDWAR, June 10
: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev was force-fed by doctors at a Dehradun hospital on Friday afternoon, which ended his fast-unto-death agitation against corruption on its seventh day.

Amid high drama, Ramdev, who was on an indefinite fast against corruption, was shifted to a hospital in Dehradun as doctors attending on him opined that his health parametres were "worrisome".[break]

A Patanjali Yogapeeth spokesman claimed the decision to shift Ramdev to a hospital was taken by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, who gave directions to the Haridwar District Magistrate on this.

The 46-year-old yoga guru is being “taken to Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences in Dehra Dun”, G S Martolia, SSP, Dehra Dun, told PTI.

There was commotion in the ashram as some of Ramdev´s supporters protested the district administration´s move to shift him to hospital.

Some protestors even clashed with police when the yoga guru, who was on a fast against corruption and black money, was being taken on a stretcher. However, it was resolved immediately with the help of ashram authorities.

Doctors, who examined Ramdev in the morning, had said he needed immediate hospitalisation.

“His blood pressure is 104/70 which is low and pulse rate is 58 per minute which is also low. If his pulse rate and blood pressure continue to go down, it may put some pressure on his heart. We found his condition sinking. It is worrisome,” Chief Medical Officer Yogesh Chandra Sharma said after the medical examination.

A close aide of Ramdev, Swami Sampoornand, claimed the yoga guru had gone into an “unconscious state”.

The doctors attending to him had sent in a recommendation for his hospitalisation on “priority basis” as they had found him suffering from dehydration and had advised him to break his fast, which rejected by the yoga exponent.
