Serap Jangbu aims for historic 14

KATHMANDU, April 15: Serap Jangbu Sherpa will start the ascent of Mt Makalu (8,463m) on April 20 in the course of his mission to become the first Nepali ever to ascend all 14 peaks that are taller than 8,000m.



In a program that was held on Wednesday, Sherpa, who already holds the record for being the first Nepali to climb 10 peaks above 8,000m, was handed the Nepali national flag by the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hishila Yami.



To complete his mission, Sherpa, who started with the ascent of Mt Kanchanjungha (8,586m) on May 12, 1999, plans to climb Pakistani peaks Gesharbrum-I (8,068m), Broad Peak (8,051m) and Nanga Parbat (8,125m) by the summer of 2010.
