UML aims to increase party membership to 750,000 by Statute Convention

KATHMANDU, May 1: The CPN-UML has announced its plan to increase party membership to 750,000 by the upcoming Statute Convention.



Madhav Dhungel, the secretary of the central organisation department of the UML, stated that the party has declared this year as the ‘Year of Internal Party Life’ and aims to raise its membership to 6 percent of the total number of voters by the time of the Statute Convention.

According to Dhungel, the party has instructed provincial committees to complete the membership process within this month of Baisakh (mid-May).


“We have directed district committees to complete new party memberships and renewals within Baisakh and submit them to the provincial committees,” he said. “After that, we will ask the provincial committees to submit the membership details to the central office by the first week of Jestha.”


Secretary Dhungel said that the current party membership stands at 550,000. He said, “Our goal is to increase it to 750,000 by the upcoming Statute Convention.”


The CPN-UML has scheduled its Statute Convention to be held from September 5 to7.
