KATHMANDU, Oct 2: The CPN-UML has proposed providing basic orientation to people wishing to join the UML before issuing them party membership.
A party organisational report presented by UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel at the ongoing Statute General Convention of the party that started on Friday in Godawari, Lalitpur contains a proposal in this regard. The proposal has stressed the need for expanding the membership of the party.

The proposal also states that attraction of youths to the party has increased after the decision of KP Oli to dissolve parliament on December 20, 2020 and there is a need to link them with party activities. The number of party members has increased to around 600,000 from 256,772 when the party’s ninth general convention was organized.
The general convention that will conclude on Sunday will endorse the political report, organizational report and statute amendment proposal. Over 6,000 representatives are participating in it.
Various 10 groups are scheduled to discuss all three proposals on Saturday itself. Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, General Secretary Pokharel and Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Prasad Poudel are scheduled to respond to the queries raised by the participants on various provisions of the reports on Sunday.
