The fast food was brought for policemen providing security to jailed former minister Gupta, who was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon at Himal Hospital, Gyaneshwor, after developing blood pressure-related complaints. Gupta, who is serving a term at Dilli Bazar Jail, returned from hospital on Thursday. Gupta´s son Bhaskar Gupta is still in hospital.
According to police, Radhe Shyam Barma, one of the cops who fell unconscious and is under continuing treatment in the ICU, has yet to regained consciousness. SSP Paal said, “Preliminary investigation has shown that the incident was orchestrated with some malafide intent.”
Once a detailed report from NAST (National Academy of Science and Technology) is received, investigations will be speeded up to determine the actual cause of the unconsciousness and those behind it if any, SSP Paal said.
The chicken-based fast food was ordered from the Durbarmarg outlet of the international fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and chow mein from Patan, according to Police Constable Liladhar Nepali, the other cop placed in ICU after fainting. He was transferred to the general ward after regaining consciousness. “I had smelt some medicine in the food but we all ate it anyway. Within 15 minutes I was unconsciousness,” he said.
Police suspect Gupta´s aides of mixing some ´poison´ in the food or in the soft drinks, which were ordered from different places. However, Bhaskar Gupta did not wish to respond in this regard.
