3 kidnappers killed in police action

NEPALGUNJ , July 7: Three kidnappers, including two Indian nationals, were killed in a police action in a forest in Fattepur across the Rapti river in Banke on Tuesday. The police shot dead the trio after a police team on a missing to free five villagers abducted by a gang two days ago came under fire from the kidnappers.



Rajesh Maurya, 28, of Fattepur-3, Gedala, and Babadin Yadav, 29, and an associate of Nawabgunj in Bahraich district, India died in the action at Murgiya river about 20 km east of Nepalgunj, according to SP Mahesh Bikram Shah. [break]



Police have also arrested two accomplices -- Rujali Pathan, 29, and Umesh Maurya, 22, of Fattepur-3 -- of the abductors. The group had kidnapped seven villagers from a forest near Fattepur-7 Sunday night while going to Gangapur, Jamuni, with a tractor of cement from Nepalgunj.



Prem Bahadur Singh, 50, of Fattepur-6, his daughter Rupsara Singh, 20, her husband Hikmat Singh, 25, and Ramjan Alisai, Ganesh Chamar, Parshuram Chamar and Purna Bahadur Khatri of Fattepur-6 were abducted.



The abductors had released Prem Bahadur Khatri and Parshuram Chamar on the night of abduction to make arrangements for ransom from the abducted person´s families while they kept the rest five under their control.



All five were rescued by the police Tuesday. They returned home with bruises all over their bodies due to three days of thrashing by the abductors.
