The Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Kathmandu, arrested Tika Thapa Magar aka Sagar, 25 of Doramba VDC Ramechhap, Tej Bahadur Tamang, 26, of Ledevi-5 of Ramechhap and Prem Mahato Chaudhary, 31 of Ratnamagar-1, Chitwan from Balkhu and Chitwan on Monday. The three were arrested during investigations into theft of bolero jeep and several motorbikes from Kathmandu.SSP Sarbendra Khanal, the newly appointed chief of the Division, said of the three arrested, two are on the most wanted list for committing various crimes in Kathmandu Valley.
After their arrest, police disclosed that they were involved in various crimes in Kathmandu for the last few months, SSP Khanal said, adding they were mainly found involved in stealing vehicles and smuggling them to Tarai districts.
On February 4, two unidentified motorcycle-borne men had robbed Saraswoti Acharya of over Rs 1.8 million while she was making an exit from the Mid Baneshwar-based Global IME Bank. The two looters have been identified as Magar and Tamang.
According to DSP Om Adhikari of Crime Division, the arrestees who used to visit the bank to receive their share of money from sale of stolen motorbikes had noticed that the woman visited the same bank repeatedly to receive cash, and planned to rob her, according to the police.
Acharya, one of the operators of Hamro Chitwan Money Transfer based in Sinamangal, was robbed soon after she made an exit from the bank after withdrawing Rs 1,884,635 from the bank.
The Metropolitan Police Circle Office, New Baneshwar, had remained clueless about the robbers for the past five months.
Similarly, the police also found that the arrested were also involved in the looting of Rs 155,000 from Prena Rai of Kapan, Rs 69,250 from Sumitra Adhikari of Bauddha, and robbery of a gold necklace in Bafal.
Police also recovered a Bolero (Ba 6 Cha 7698), who the robbers had stolen, from Padam Pokhari of Makawanpur and eight motorcycles.
