Organizing a press meet on Friday, District Police Office (DPO) of Darchula informed that the three were arrested while trying to smuggle leopard cat hide to Tibet via Tinkar border point situated in the northern part of the district.
During security check, police deployed at the border point arrested two persons from Tinkar and one person from Chharung and seized two leopard cat's hides from their possession on Wednesday. The seized skins of endangered species were brought to the district headquarters, DPO Darchula informed. The arrested have been identified as KemnaiTamang, 28, of Hekka VDC-1, Uday Singh Bohara, 68, of Byas VDC-4, and SurminThapa, 26, of Api municipality-11 from the district, according to DSP NainsinghKarki.

“A patrolling team arrested them and seized the skin from them on Wednesday,” said Karki. He informed that one seized leopard cat skin is 2 ft 9 inch long and 6 inch wide, while another seized skin is 2 ft 5 inch long and 5 inch wide. Police have intensified patrolling in the border areas of Tinkar following the incident, DSP Karki said.
The arrested will be handed over to Api Nampa Conservation Area Office of Darchula for further action as per the National Park and Wildlife Conservation Act 2029 B.S.
