Khadka retains lead

KATHMANDU, May 11: Rabi Khadka retained his lead after the third round of the Ghana´s Open golf tournament at the Army Officers´ Golf Club on Wednesday.



The Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) pro played a round of one-under 71 on the third day and took two-stroke lead over clubmate Ramesh Adhikari in overall. Khadka has total score of eight-under 208 while Adhikari, who shot two-under 70 on Wednesday, has the total score of six-under 210.[break]



Reigning Nepal No 1 and two-time defending champion Shiva Ram Shrestha and Deepak Neupane shared the third position at even-par 216. Shiva Ram carded one-under 71 on third round, while Deepak faltered to two-over 74. Three pros -- Sanjay Lama, Toran Bikram Shahi and Yelamber Singh Adhikari -- were tied for fifth with the total score of three-over 219.



Four others -- Dharan´s Mani Rai along with RNGC trio of Deepak Thapa Magar, Ramesh Nagarkoti and Umesh Nagarkoti -- shared the eighth position at 221.



Leader Khadka began the third day with three-stroke lead over Ramesh Adhikari and extended the cushion to six strokes after he carded four-under 32 on the front nine that included two birdies on the first and third holes and an eagle on the seventh hole.



But the former No 1 began the back nine with a triple bogey on the par-4 10th hole after his tee shot went out of the boundary. He carded two birdies and as many bogeys to finish the latter half at three-over 39.



Adhikari carded one-under 35 on either halves.



The lone amateur player to make the cut NJ Rayamajhi -- who will lift the amateur section trophy -- played a forgettable round of 10-over 82 fall down to overall 21st position with the total score of 19-over 235.



The second event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011-12 will conclude on Thursday. The top three pros will receive Rs 60,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.
