SPORTS BRIEFS: New football portal launched

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Sports journalist Bikram Thapa has launched footballinasia.com, a website dedicated to Asian Football. Thapa is also the CEO of goalnepal.com which covers activities of Nepali football.



According to Thapa, who is also the CEO on newly launched website, the website will cover all the football activities of 46 nations affiliated to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). [break]



"AFC Asian Cup to begin from Friday will be our first coverage and for this three members of the team will be working in Qatar," Thapa said at a press conference on Wednesday.



According to Thapa the team currently has 11-member to cover the Asian region and it will expand in the future. The portal has been registered in Nepal in the name of Football Asian Private Limited.


Police maintain winning streak



Nepal Police Club (NPC) have maintained their winning streak in the Sixth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball winning their fifth straight match on Wednesday. They defeated Workers Martyrs Memorial Club (WMMC) 28-26, 25-10, 25-23 in straight sets and are leading with 15 points. Nita Shah of NPC was declared the woman of the match.



Defending champions Gyanu Baba School are on NPC´s heels with 12 points after their fourth consecutive win and also have a game in hand. Pariksha Gurung, who was later adjudged the woman of the match, delighted the spectators with powerful spikes as Gyanu Baba eased past Angel´s Heart 25-7, 25-10, 25-10. In another match held at New Bus Park, Balaju, Tops School outplayed Chandeshwori 25-11, 25-10, 25-12. Preeti Gurung of Tops was adjudged the woman of the match. Tops are jointly second along with Gyanu Baba.
